Download Instructions for Getting Data From PsychExperiments

 

1.       Begin on the homepage at http://psychexps.olemiss.edu. Choose the Download Data link. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.       You will see the screen below. Choose Download Data from Lab Exercises.

 

3.       Select the name of the experiment for which you want data from the list in the scrolling window “Please select.”

 Lateralized Stroop has been selected.

 

4.       Choose a time frame that contains data you want to download.  The datasets available in that time frame appear below the time frame window.


 

5.       Select data subsets that you want to download by clicking on them.

6.       To select non-contiguous datasets, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on multiple datasets.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

7.       When you have the data you want, click the  button.

8.       A window will appear that reports the number of datasets you have selected.  The number may be slightly larger than the actual number of datasets you will receive because the count is executed on a table that includes entries for people who completed experiments but did not send their data.  Click the  button.  If the dataset is too small, go back and add more datasets.

 

9.       Clicking the Save DataSet as TextFile button creates a comma delimited file with the raw data that you can download.  To download the data, RIGHT click on the link  This will open a dialog box in Internet Explorer with the option “Save Data As.”  In Netscape the option will be “Save Link As.”  Choose the option appropriate to your browser and save the datafile to your desktop.

 

 

10.  These two icons will appear on your desktop. Click the one on the left to launch the macro that will analyze the data in the file represented by the icon on the right.

Do not click on the Raw Data file.  This will open up the Raw Data, but in non-interpretable form.

11.  You will be asked if you wish to enable the macros.  Answer Yes.  This will launch the macro.

12.  When the macro begins, it places a custom entry on the Excel menu bar.  The entry is “Get PsychExperiments DATA.” Click this option.

13.  The next screen is a “Welcome” screen. From this point follow the instructions to get your data.

14.  Clicking “Continue” produces this screen where you can browse to the data file.  The data subsets will show in the Data Subsets window.  You can select the data sets you want.

 

 

15.   To open all the data, click OK.  This will produce an Excel workbook with one worksheet per research participant and a summary page.  The summary page will be the active window when the macro ends.
