Of departments
surveyed 56% own a computer which meets minimum requirements to use PsychExps and
which undergraduates may use. Also, upgrades were frequent with 72.8% of departments
having upgraded their undergraduate computers within the last year.
Funds allocated per year to maintain the
laboratory software and the necessary computer hardware ranged from $0 to $75,000. Most
respondents (88.8%) were limited to $5,000 or less, while 23.3% (the modal response)
received no funds whatsoever. The mean allocated funds was $3,016 while the median fell at
$1,000.
As can be seen in Figure 13 incremental increase in
allocated annual funds decreases sharply after approximately $3,000, the point at which
81% of the responses fall at or below.
